How did it start?
The Philippine Swine Breed Registry (PSBR) was initiated in 2016 under the DOST-PCAARRD-funded project titled “Establishment of a Breed Registry System for Purebred Swine.” Implemented by the Institute of Animal Science, College of Agriculture and Food Science, UP Los Baños, the project aimed to create a web-based platform for breeders to encode and manage animal pedigree and performance data.
The system enabled breeders to request inspections for verifying farm data and to generate certifications. However, the project was interrupted by challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak. These setbacks emphasized the need to enhance the system, ensuring its long-term relevance and sustainability for the swine industry.
The Philippine Swine Breed Registry (PSBR) helps breeders maintain quality and traceability of swine breeds in the Philippines through official registration services.
Breeders can register their litters and performance-tested pigs, then request certificates to document their animals’ lineage and performance.

FAQs
How long does the registration process take and what are the requirements?
The registration timeline depends on the type:
- Litter Pedigree Registration (LPR): Takes 18 days to complete
- Purebred Performance Tested Pig Registration (PPTR): Takes 10 days to complete
Requirements for both types include:
Must be a PSBR member
Submit animal information and photos (5 angles: left, right, front, back, top)
Photos must be clear, well-lit, with visible ID numbers and no filters
Pay registration fee
Attend a live video inspection (20 minutes max via Zoom or Google Meet)
What’s the difference between a Pedigree Certificate and a Purebred Certificate?
Pedigree Certificate: Issued for pigs registered through Litter Pedigree Registration (LPR). Shows the animal’s pedigree and proves purebred status. Available for litters as early as day old.
Purebred Certificate: Issued for pigs registered through Purebred Performance Tested Pig Registration (PPTR). Includes performance data and genetic evaluation. Only available for animals up to 5 months old that already have pedigree registration.
Can I transfer ownership of my registered pig to someone who isn’t a PSBR member?
Yes, you can transfer ownership to both PSBR members and non-members. The process requires:
- Bill of Sale or Transfer Agreement as proof
- PSBR Animal ID of the pig being transferred
- Signed acknowledgment from both current and new owner
If the new owner is NOT a PSBR member, you’ll need to provide their full name, farm name, contact number, and email address. Non-member new owners will have ownership recorded but with limited system access.
How can I request certificates and what formats are available?
You can request certificates in two formats:
- Digital Certificate (PDF): Log into PSBR system, select your registered pig, complete the request form, upload proof of payment, and download the PDF after approval.
- Physical Certificate (Hard Copy): First obtain the digital certificate, then request a physical copy by providing your mailing address, preferred delivery method, and number of copies needed, along with payment proof.
Your pig must already be successfully registered with PSBR before you can request any certificates.
